The Story of Calla Gold Owner and Santa Barbara Jeweler

“I’m here to help you find the greatest pleasure, satisfaction and delight with your jewelry.”

~ Calla Gold Yes, my last name really is Gold. Could that be more perfect? Was I destined to become a jeweler, or what!? I’ve lived in the Santa Barbara area nearly my entire life. I attended nearby schools and worked at local businesses. Accordingly, I’ve developed a close bond with the community in Santa Barbara, Montecito, Carpinteria, and Goleta. In 1983, I created Calla Gold Jewelry. I’ve been visiting my clients in their homes and where they work ever since. I specialize in helping people select the right pieces of jewelry. The piece you choose should complement your physical appearance, unique personality and lifestyle. I take great pleasure in helping you choose the jewelry that you’ve always desired, whether it’s a one-of-a-kind ring featuring diamonds and precious gemstones, elegant Italian designer chains and bracelets, or wedding rings. I’ll help you find it or I’ll custom make your dream for you. While my passion is designing custom and unique pieces of jewelry, I get special satisfaction in solving problems with those neglected and troublesome pieces of jewelry that you may have relegated to the darkest depths of your jewelry box. In fact, on more than one occasion, I’ve been called the “problem-solving jeweler.” Learn about my jewelry repair services and happy clients.

I speak at seminars and conventions as an expert jeweler, designer, marketer, sales trainer, female entrepreneur, and on empowerment for women in business. At local organizations my topics include: “Discover Your Best Look” which teaches how jewelry shapes, face shape, and body style relate; and “Revitalize Your Jewelry Wardrobe” which shows many ways to maximize your jewelry wardrobe and rethink your under-worn jewelry with tips on simple changes that make huge differences. I also speak about small business marketing, networking, and organizing leads. Contact me to speak at your event.

  1. Hello dear!
So wonderful to see your work!
I was wondering if you would be interested in creating emerald and diamond chandelier earings from an outdated chocker I have? Do you work with 18 Karat gold?
I live in Switzerland at the moment, and really like the appearance of 18 + karat gold versus the North American 9 – 14 karat.
Let me know your thoughts and fees if you would be interested.
    Thank you sincerely,

    • Hello Jennifer,
I’d be delighted to work with you on this project. Eighteen karat yellow gold is a choice I make regularly in projects. I’ll reply also by email to you.
      Your Personal Jeweler,

  2. Dear Calla Gold,
I live in Massachusetts and am not planning in visiting your town, and don’t need any jewerly at the moment either, but have came across your blog in a few occasions and wanted to tell you that I enjoy your articles and jewerly pieces! I’m sorry that I can’t visit you in person. You seem very creative, passionate about your work and I like your intuition and the emotion in your writing. Great job!

    • Dear Diana,
I really appreciate your feedback and am happy you are a reader here at the blog.
      Your Personal Jeweler,

  3. I have had a Charles and Colvard moissanite ring since around 2006 or 2007. It was a 1ct round stone that I enjoyed, but in 2012 it cracked. Or I cracked it? Goodness knows how. I had it replaced under warranty, then just recently the replacement has chipped and cracked. Is it the setting? Am I caring for it incorrectly? I’m not a particularly rough-housing kind of gal, so I’m pretty surprised this has happened twice, though maybe that is typical life-expectancy (5 or so years)? Are there soaps or chemicals I may’ve weakened it with? I wear gloves and protect my hands pretty consistently, but maybe there is something I’m unaware of causing this to happen.

Thank you for your reply. I’ve stumbled upon this blog, and have enjoyed reading the engagement ring thread. My smaller engagement diamond ring was stolen, and when push came to shove on replacing it, I wanted something larger, and less expensive of course. I wondered when it first arrived if it was TOO sparkly. My goodness was there ever some fire in that thing. Do they stand out as fake? Or was my diamond just of a lesser clarity, so I wasn’t used to it?

  4. Hello Calla,
I stumbled upon your website when I was looking for guidance in buying Rose Gold pieces. It seems like my rose gold never lasts & either fades or looks tarnished. I’m now looking for a chain for 2 rose gold pendants I have, where the chains did not last! One was stainless steel rose gold plated. I have a ring & cuff done in this new (?) rose gold stainless steel metal, & they’re so shiny, & last & last, with no fading or tarnishing! So, I thought this necklace chain would last the same. Well, 2 days of wear & it looked more like brass than rose gold. So, I found this chain online, but in the description it said it was rose gold flashed silver. Huh??? So I asked Google what it was, & your website came up that led to the answer.

Well, then I got sucked right in! Gee, I feel like a know you personally! Great job designing your site. Plus, I love, love, love jewelry! I have a lot of it! Yes – a woman can never have too many earrings! If I had $1000 to spend on anything….. I’d make a bee line to the jewelry store! Now that I’ve found you, who knows the treasure I might find. I’m particularly interested in your creating new pieces, from unused, old estate jewelry that now have broken parts or missing stones. You now have my email as I signed up for your blog. So, maybe I’ll have to look over all my unused jewelry, & gather up those, & my old estate pieces to see what I have.

It’s really great that you are from & live in Santa Barbara, as I went to college at Westmont & graduated there in 1989! Oh how I adored Santa Barbara! Our secret patch of Paradise! I Married my now x- husband who grew up in Goleta (Steve Fox), & settled down in San Diego to raise our 2 daughters for 20 yrs.! We subsequently moved to the Pacific Northwest. After my divorce, I moved on to Spokane, Washington so I could live close by to my sister & elderly parents.

I’m glad to have found you, & look forward to your emails about jewelry!

    • Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for your nice introduction. I look forward to hearing from you for re-design projects.
      Santa Barbara says hi!
      Your Personal Jeweler,

  5. Grrr, I have a blog on my website and it sucks. I actually
removed it, but may have to bring it back. You gave me inspiration!
    Continue writing!

  6. I lost my engagement ring years ago. Before it was lost we had it apraised and have the detailed report still. Would it be possible to use the appraisal report to replicate the lost ring?

    • Hello Eileen,
Many appraisals include a photo of the ring. If that is the case with your appraisal it may indeed help in its replication. I had a client create a dream ring board. She copied pictures of engraving, ring shapes and other details. By the time she’d shown me what each picture represented in her ring design I was able to make the ring she wanted. It came out beautifully and was quite unique.
In other words if the appraisal doesn’t give all the needed detail, you can figure out ways to fill in the blanks.
      Your Personal Jeweler,

  7. Hi Calla,
I dropped my wedding band (flat men’s 18k band with beveled sides) in the garbage disposal. It is pretty heavily gouged. Was wondering if you could fix it and what that would cost.
