Lorrie’s Custom Designed Ring Goes National

Unique shapes in engagement ring by Calla Gold Jewelry

Lorrie’s Ring in the MJSA’s National Journal

Before I tell You About Lorrie’s Ring….

As a Santa Barbara Jewelry Designer, I’ve been asked how I can design in so many different styles when many Jewelers have a certain style that they stick too.

I addressed this very question a year ago when I spoke in New York at the MJSA EXPO. (MJSA is the Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America)See my blog post about it.

The Gist of My Talk at the MJSA EXPO

My design inspiration is a lot wider and far reaching than my skill level.

Many Jewelers excel at certain skills. They tend not to design with details they haven’t mastered. I love to design things that I have no prayer of executing completely.

So I lean on my much respected specialists in hand engraving and complicated gem setting styles when I design beyond my expertise. It is their specialization that allows me to create the wild and unique custom designed ring styles that I do.

MJSA Liked Lorrie’s Ring

MJSA Journal recently did a great follow up article on the topic of jewelry designers collaborating with other jewelry industry experts to reach beyond our comfort zones in their designing.

They used my design of Lorrie’s custom designed ring as the big splashy image to start the article and quoted me inside it as well. I had to share!

Lorrie’s ring is a great example of a unique custom design ring using collaboration to be born.

Lorrie’s Unique Engagement Ring

When Lorrie and I started working on

Phrenology Head

Lorrie’s Web Marketing Therapy Business Logo

the design for her engagement ring I wanted to really include her personal style. I found the phrenology head in her logo for her Web Marketing Therapy business to be visually gripping.

Since her business is such a part of her life I asked if we could do a riff on her logo with shapes and gaps in between. Lorrie said “yes.”

This led to her unique mixed shapes and textures custom designed ring. To keep with the unusual style, I chose cognac and canary color tiny side  diamonds which look great inside the oxidized border areas of her design.

Lorrie’s Ring is a Star

It’s pretty cool when a national magazine uses your ring as the picture. But that’s perfectly fitting since Lorrie Thomas Ross goes all over the country speaking and educating businesses about her favorite topic “online marketing.” So it’s perfect that her jet setting ring that has traveled with her all over the country is now being seen in a magazine all over the country.
