The shank is the part of a ring that rests underneath the finger and meets the main part of the design on top.
Shanks come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are important factors in how rings sit on the finger.
A proper ring shank gives comfort and security and helps prevent the ring from twirling.
I have a gold colored flip ring with a rowed cluster of 8 dimons on one side and 2 small dimonds on each side of a what looks like a Rubi? It has an s or 5 stamped on each individual shank on the side? What do I have . and thank you for your time.
Dear Danny, I’m unfamiliar with what you mean when you say “flip” ring. Unless you mean a hinged ring where you get to choose what gem is on top like row of emerald, or row of rubies or row of diamonds. S is not a stamping I am familiar with. A 5 however could have been part of a 585 stamp which is the Europeon stamp for 14kt. It means 58% pure gold, with the balance being alloy metals.
