Jewelry Definition – Pancaked Prong

Pancaked prong next to broken off oneA pancaked prong is a slang term for a prong that’s thin and worn down flat.

Worn prongs often look flattened out, or what I like to call, “pancaked.” The nice original rounded form of the prong has been worn away and what is left is a weakened, flat substitute.

Pancaked prongs should definitely be replaced.
