Dear Calla – A Little Diamond Dilemma

Dear Calla GoldDear Calla,

I’ve been married for twenty years and my little diamond ring doesn’t look as good now that my hands have, shall we say “matured.”

My sweetie of a husband said we could upgrade my diamond to a bigger one. I don’t want a bigger one, I like the diamond I got married in. My little ring is super thin and bending a bit on the bottom so I need to make some kind of a change. How can I get a new ring design that is bigger, but not make my diamond look dinky?

– Loving my little diamond

Dear Loving,

I think that is so sweet that you want to keep the little diamond you got married in. Over the years our fingers do look better with a wider or taller ring. To keep your diamond from looking even smaller with a wider design, I’d recommend considering a diamond halo. It makes your diamond look bigger and allows for a ring design that is wider at the center. Having a design that starts wider at the center and tapers makes your hand look feminine.

I’m sharing the before and after of a ring I did adding a halo of diamonds. It turned out just beautifully for my client. She wanted more width in her new ring, but like you wanted to use her original diamond.
