Redesign Jewelry. That’s What my New Webpage is Dedicated to.
Pull out the jewelry you’re not wearing and lets discuss how it might be changed into jewelry you’ll wear!
For inspiration look at my new webpage Redesign jewelry with befores and afters of projects I’ve done for client’s jewelry pieces that weren’t being worn!
My New Webpage About Redesign and Revitalization
It actually covers redesigns and revitalizations.
Revitalizing takes the ring or piece of jewelry not being worn and instead of redesigning it we come up with a way to change it for the better.
Some changes are slight and some make a big difference! In revitalizing I change the piece of jewelry’s basic look using textures, engraving, plating, repair and cool cheeky changes.
Revitalization Creates Great Effects
There are lovely old designs with potential. Karen’s ring was one such.
I’d say it had a lovely design. It also had a paper thin shank, (The bottom of the ring), dangerously worn down prongs endangering the diamonds and sadly worn out engraving.
Oh yeah and it didn’t fit her. My solution a mid-life tune-up for her lovely old vintage ring.
We did the works, re-shanked it thicker, sized it, re-tipped the prongs and re-engraved the details. It looks just wow, now! Click on the picture to enlarge it and see the details.
How About a Texturing Example?
Jill brought out a few pieces of jewelry she wasn’t wearing. One piece really popped out. It was a delicate ring with an opal and an art nouveau woman’s face. It was fairly scratched up and the details weren’t really showing.
I suggested she let me polish it up gently and add matte finish to the hair so her face would show more as the star of the ring. It was a simple little thing, but it really made a difference.
Curious About Plating to Create Changes in Look?
Jill pulled out some earrings she used to wear a lot. She said, “well they look a bit 70’s.”
I had her try them on and the earring shape was still very complimentary to her face shape.
So I said. “shall we try to sexy them up? Bring them a bit more up to date?”
“What are you thinking?”
“A bit of daring black rhodium plating.”
“Go for it!”
I did and they looked pretty different with just that subtle change. Dare I say up to date? Jill can totally rock that look now.
Redesign:From Wedding-y to Everyday
Barbara wasn’t married anymore and just wasn’t wearing her five diamond band.
The diamonds were really nice. We started by making earrings from two of the diamonds. Then we talked about what Barbara would like. She loves her garden and flowers. And there is just nothing too wedding-y about a cheery flower ring.
This little beauty now lives on her right hand. The center is yellow sapphire and the the petals are green tsavorite.
