“The things that we love tells us what we are.” ~ Thomas Aquinas
Some of my long-time readers may remember Thomas Aquinas from an earlier Gems of Wisdom but there’s nothing wrong with having him visit once more!
Saint Thomas Aquinas is a pretty big deal in both Philosophy and Theology. He was lauded by the church for his attempt to synthesize Aristotelian philosophy (from Aristotle) with the principles of Christianity.
His work created the branch of philosophy known as Thomism. He was held in such high regard that the Catholic Church considered Thomas Aquinas to be the model teacher for those studying for the priesthood.
Pope Benedict XV himself declared: “This (Dominican) Order … acquired new luster when the Church declared the teaching of Thomas to be her own and that Doctor, honored with the special praises of the Pontiffs, the master and patron of Catholic schools.”
