Gems of Wisdom: Robert Mitchum and a Rose Gold Band

By Calla Gold

“Maybe love is like luck.  You have to go all the way to find it.” ~ Robert Mitchum

His words are joined by a rose gold band with Norwegian rosemaling engraving and milgrain engraved edges in the center with black rhodium treatment.

I’m sure many of us remember Robert Mitchum from his work in noir films, such as The Story of G.I. JoeCrossfireOut of the PastThe Night of the Hunter, and Cape Fear.

He was ranked #23 on the American Film Institute‘s list of the greatest male American screen legends of all time.

  1. Calla, I’m fascinated by the Norwegian rosemaling. Can you tell me more about it? It looks so beautiful in the hand engraving.
Would it look that striking without the black rhodium? You’re making me look at black rhodium with new interest.

    • Hi Tracey,
I’ve often told my clients who wish to select their own engraving design to look to wood carvings. If they bring me a super complex pen and ink drawing, we can’t engrave it by hand. We might be able to laser engrave it but you wouldn’t be able to see the details. But wood carvings are simpler and often a perfect design to emulate with hand engraving.
My client already loved rosemaling and was able to find it in wood carving and that is how we created that engraving on her ring. The black rhodium made the engraving really look fantastic. It gave it more depth. It wouldn’t be as prominent without the black rhodium. It’d still look nice though!
